I’ve mentioned before how I love painting sharp contrasts (colors, shapes, shadows, textures, nature vs. human-made, etc.) as well as water, rocks, and interesting skies. This has many of those things. The dark looming cliffs on either side are an open doorway to ocean adventures beyond: hence, the title.

To me this is a companion piece to an earlier painting, One of the Buoys.
