Seven years ago I painted “Jelly Bean Houses”, which offered a view of some of the colorful buildings that St. John’s is renowned for. This painting is taken from the same viewpoint but during a late afternoon in early December. I was struck by how the colors were much more muted, and of course there was an absence of greenery. Some of the houses seemed in need of a fresh coat of paint, too. It’s still quite a colorful scene in the dead of winter, just not as striking as it is in summer.
