I’ve long been an avid reader of the mystery/thriller/crime novels by Dick Francis. He was originally a steeplechase jockey, and then went on to write some forty novels that all featured aspects of horse racing. This painting was inspired by re-reading some of those novels again recently. My personal favorite is Blood Sport, first published in 1967.
