Description:
I’m always asked whether I sketch the painting out first. I do need outlines of main structures so that I don’t get lost or enthusiastically paint over something that should have been left white. But you can’t really sketch on watercolour paper because it doesn’t withstand much erasure. The compromise is that I transfer an outline using tracing paper. It’s that transferred outline that can be seen in this image.
