Description:
Some of my paintings have featured brightly painted, pristine boats while others have shown vessels that look abandoned and no longer seaworthy. The ones in this image are evidently tired workhorses that have been far too busy to get prettied up. The scene is from Cox’s Cove, a tiny (pop. ~ 650) fishing and former logging community located on the south side of Middle Arm in the Bay of Islands. That’s on the west coast of Newfoundland. It’s at the very end of the narrow, winding route 440; straight ahead is the Gulf of St. Lawrence with next stop Labrador. I was there this past July when I took the reference photos for this painting.
Thanks to my wife Susan for suggesting the title for this one.
