Description:
This painting depicts Elli (foreground) and Vento (background), two Lusitano horses owned by my friend, author and screenwriter Melinda Snodgrass. We visited her in Santa Fe last August where I took hundreds of photos of her horses. This painting uses three of those photos for reference. Both horses are of the Lusitano breed. Vento has competed in dressage with Melinda, whereas young Elli is just learning the ropes. She was curious about the camera and permitted this head shot. Elli is starting to show signs that her adult coat will be gray/white like Vento’s.
