Description:
I’ve been to Australia a half-dozen times now, and in June I visited Brisbane. There I got to see koalas again and even hold one, briefly. I also petted a cheetah and survived the experience. I decided I must paint a koala, and took many photos before deciding on the one that I used as a reference for this painting.
The first Australian scene that I painted was “Clearing in Point Lonsdale.” There will doubtless be more such paintings sometime.
When I release a painting that is obviously not a Newfoundland scene, I invariably receive emails from people wanting to tell me, “That’s not a Newfoundland scene.” And so I’d just like to preempt any such complaints by saying, yes, I know. The opening paragraph should have made that clear! There aren’t any koalas in Newfoundland.
