Description:
Here’s another Atlantic puffin, those cartoonish, clownish, colorful, tuxedo-clad birds that seem so unreal and improbable in their appearance. This one appears to be exploring a treacherous landscape of forbidding rock formations, which inspired the title. There are many different colors among the rocks, especially shades of pink, blue, mauve, purple, yellow, and orange.
I based this painting on one of hundreds of photos of puffins and other birds that I took at the puffin colony in Elliston a few months ago. Prior paintings of mine that feature puffins include Hot Gossip, Puffin Perspective, An Improbability of Puffins, and Siblings. You can expect more to come because I enjoy painting these birds so much.
