Description:
This boat is built for speed, but she’s been idled by her owner, and waits patiently (or impatiently?) for the next opportunity. She’s raring to go.
I don’t recall the exact location, but it’s either Green’s Harbour or Whiteway. Someone may correct me and if so, I’ll update the description.
As always, there are contrasts that I like in my work. The old decaying wood with lichen and seaweed attached; the dark wharf vs. the bright speedboat; the white of the boat’s hull vs. the signs of age on its stern; the human-built structures vs. the ocean waves.
The act of painting an idled boat made me think of my friend Ann Elderkin, Executive Director of the ASBMR, who announced that she is retiring at the end of this month. She and her husband bought a boat and they plan to see a lot of places during their retirement. Maybe they’ll make it to Newfoundland? Their boat is also idly waiting until the end of October…
My thanks to Lisa Dawe who turned my planned title into something better.
