Description:
When I began this painting, I knew that I was going to include two sea turtles and a variety of fish – Fred the Puffer Fish by demand – but I had not yet decided on the exact number and placement of them. I’d also decided to paint the turtles and fish first, in order that I could get their colours done properly – the looming blue/green sea background would otherwise negatively affect the colour choices. At this phase, I had sketched the outlines of the two turtles and had spent just a few minutes painting the head of the largest turtle.
