Fog-loom, Phase 4
Phase: 4
Date: August 25, 2006
Description:
At this point, the blue ship has been completed and blurred out into the fog, while the red ship is a bit too bright and distinct and will later receive a coating of fog to make it recede a bit further into the background. The rotted wharf and rocks have been worked upon, and the birds have been added. The four flying birds required a bit of white that could not have been practically saved on the paper during the mutiple washes to the background. There are numerous ways of recovering the white of the paper or adding white to a watercolour painting, and in this case the way chosen was to add a little bit of an opaque white watercolour. A knifeblade is another method that could have been used to scrape paint away and reveal the white underneath.
