Description:
I generally use 300 lb paper for watercolours, and it was especially important for this painting because much of it would be done with the paper soaking wet. Other paper would buckle permanently. 300 lb will temporarily buckle a bit, and then become flat again as it dries (the tape holds it down securely). This stage shows the bare outline sketch for orientation, much of which would be lost during the painting of the background to come.
