This is the last photo that I’d remembered to take before finishing the painting. After completing the island, I did the water in the foreground, followed by the reflection of the building in the water, and then the reflection of the island. The large rock and its reflection were the last elements to be done. You can see how the white paper has been saved for the rock, and also white was saved for the reflection of the boat in the water. This is how the pencil lines become very important, to remind me of boundaries that are not meant to be crossed with the brush until later or, as in the case of the reflection, not at all.
