Here is the picturesque town of Dildo, Newfoundland, with its iconic Hollywood-style sign visible in the hills. This view is from the second floor of the Dildo Brewing Company and Museum, a great place to grab a local craft beer and pub food.

Dildo has always had notoriety because of its suggestive name, which is probably benignly derived from an old nautical term. The late show comedy host Jimmy Kimmel learned about Dildo in 2019 and featured it on several successive episodes. He became honorary mayor of the town and installed the sign to support his claim that Dildo is a sister city to Hollywood.

The Dildo sign has recently been lit at night with the colors of the flag of Ukraine.

It’s been a longer than usual interval of five weeks since my last painting was completed. That’s due to the planned surgery and recovery time that I previously wrote about, but then an unexpected postoperative complication led to a 6-day readmission and a delay in getting back on my feet.

I took the reference photo in the summer of 2021. I have painted Dildo twice before with “Docked at Dildo” and “Dildo Cove.”
